Missouri American Water has filed a rate request with the Missouri Public Service Commission to raise water rates by 27.79 percent for the typical residential customer in Platte County, according to a press release from the company.

For the average customer using 8,000 gallons of water per month, the rate increase would mean your bill would increase $15.36 per month or $184.32 per year, according to the press release. The rate increase would also mean an increase of $13.01 per month for the 105 customers who use Missouri American Water’s wastewater system.

Missouri American Water stated in the press release it is requesting the rate increase because of approximately $2.2 million in investments it has completed or plans to complete in Platte County from Oct. 1, 2008, to April 30, 2010.

Folks might want to know that American Water is asking for large increases in many of their service areas. Missouri American is one, we have also tracked large increases for Indiana American, and Illinois American. Here's a link to the summary http://bit.ly/2JzTOE

Good luck.
