The famed Vogue editor-at-large was chosen along with other arts and entertainment figures including Sarah Jessica Parker, Forest Whitaker, Yo-Yo Ma and Edward Norton, to name a few.
Committee appointee Wintour is the magazine editor Meryl Streep's character in The Devil Wears Prada was based on and is the focal point of the new documentary The September Issue.
According to the committee's Web site, an appointed chairman leads the committee, which encompasses leading citizens from the private sector who have an interest in and commitment to the humanities and the arts. First Lady Michelle Obama is serving and the honorary chairperson now.
The committee was formed to work with cultural agencies to initiate and support key programs, to recognize excellence in the fields of arts and humanities and to encourage private-public partnerships around those disciplines, according to the site.
